Detalles de Varroxal 75g

Composition: Each gram of Varroxal contains 0.71 g of oxalic acid, equivalent to 1 g of oxalic acid dihydrate. It is presented as a white crystalline powder.

Indications: Varroxal is indicated for the treatment of varroosis (Varroa destructor) in honey bees (Apis mellifera) in brood-free colonies. Its use is recommended in autumn/winter when outdoor temperatures range between 2 °C and 10 °C.

Mode of Action: Oxalic acid acts as a contact poison on the Varroa destructor mite. The oxalic acid dihydrate solution spreads topically through physical contact between the bees, affecting the mite due to its low pH.

Application Methods:

1. Evaporation/Sublimation:

• Procedure: Place 2 g of the product in the crucible of the evaporator (e.g., Instantvap, Provap, or Varrox-Eddy) and position it through the hive entrance under the winter cluster.
• Temperature: Perform the treatment at temperatures between 2 °C and 10 °C.
• Recommendation: A second treatment after 2 weeks is advisable for colonies with high reinfestation (>6% infestation).

2. Drip Method:

• Preparation: Mix 8 scoops of the product with 200 ml of warm 1:1 sugar syrup to obtain a 4% oxalic acid dihydrate solution.
• Application: Use a syringe to apply 0.25 ml/dm² of solution per side of each comb. This solution is ideal for treating four colonies.
• Temperature: Suitable for outdoor temperatures above -15 °C.

3. Spraying:

• Preparation: Mix 6 scoops of the product with 200 ml of warm water in a manual sprayer to obtain a 3% oxalic acid dihydrate solution.
• Application: Spray 2-4 ml of the solution per side of each comb covered with bees. The maximum volume is 80 ml per hive.
• Temperature: Perform the treatment at outdoor temperatures above 8 °C.

Special Precautions:

• Safe Use: Use appropriate protection, including chemical-resistant gloves, safety goggles, and an FFP3 mask for evaporation or spraying applications.
• Environmental Recommendations: Apply the product outdoors or in well-ventilated areas and handle it with your back to the wind.

Withdrawal Period:

• Honey: Zero days. Do not use during honey flow.

ATCvet Code: QP53AG03

Pharmacodynamics and Pharmacokinetics:

• Action: Oxalic acid penetrates the exoskeleton of the bees and acts topically.
• Distribution: It is detected in adult bees 24 hours post-treatment, with a significant reduction by 11 days post-treatment.
