Calistrip® Biox (5 beehives)

Composition: Each strip contains 6.44 g of oxalic acid dihydrate, equivalent to 4.6 g of active oxalic acid.

Indications for use: Treatment against external parasitosis caused by the Varroa destructor mite in bees (Apis mellifera).

Dosage: Use two strips per hive, hanging them between frames storing food in the form of combs, ensuring free access to both sides of the strip by the bees. The strips should be removed after 6 weeks and should not be cut.

Precautions and usage instructions:

Apply during periods of low brood activity to maximize efficacy, as oxalic acid does not penetrate sealed brood cells.

Monitor all colonies in the apiary simultaneously and avoid concurrent use with other acaricides to prevent increased toxicity.

Warnings:

The treatment is most effective when the bees are active and not in a hibernation period.

Alternating with varroacides of different mechanisms of action can help prevent resistance to acaricides.

Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics:

Oxalic acid acts as an acaricide, likely by immobilizing calcium and altering calcium and potassium concentrations in the mites.

It is distributed among the bees through direct contact and trophallaxis, beginning to decrease its concentration in the hemolymph 72 hours after application.

Specific precautions:

Use appropriate protective equipment to avoid irritation of skin, eyes, and mucous membranes. In case of contact, wash the affected area and consult a doctor if irritation persists.
