Miller queen introduction cage
The Miller queen introduction cage is an essential tool for beekeepers who want to facilitate the acceptance of a new queen in the hive. This device combines the robustness of wood with the durability of wire mesh, providing an effective and long-lasting solution for queen introduction.
Detalles de Miller queen introduction cage
Key Features:
• Material: Constructed with high-quality wood and durable wire mesh, ensuring a long lifespan and adequate protection for the queen.
• Dimensions: Approximately 100 mm in length, 12/15 mm in width, and 30 mm in height, ideal for fitting comfortably between the hive frames.
• Efficient Design: Equipped with a wire hanger that allows the cage to be securely hung between two brood frames.
Usage Instructions:
1. Preparation: Insert the queen into the cage through the longer channel.
2. Closing the Channels: Seal both openings using bee fondant such as Apifonda, Apipasta, or similar products.
3. Placing in the Hive: Hang the cage between two brood frames using the wire hanger.
4. Introduction Process: The hive bees will make their way to the queen through both channels. However, they will reach the shorter channel first, which is blocked by a queen excluder grid, preventing the queen from exiting. The queen can only exit through the longer channel once the bees have consumed the fondant, which takes approximately 24 hours.
Advantages of the Miller Model:
• Facilitation of Acceptance: The dual-channel design allows for a gradual and controlled introduction of the queen, increasing the likelihood of acceptance by the bees.
• Safety and Protection: The queen excluder grid in the shorter channel ensures that the queen does not exit prematurely, providing a safe environment until the bees are ready for her acceptance.
This Miller queen introduction cage is an indispensable tool for any beekeeper seeking to ensure the successful integration of a new queen into their hive, ensuring a controlled and efficient introduction process.
