01 · THE VERSION

Dadant Blatt or Langstroth, and they are not alike

Both versions share the footprint — that of the Quarti six-frame nuc — but they do not share height, because each format carries its own frame. Choose by looking at which frame you use in that nuc, not at the name of the box: that is where people go wrong when they buy the super months after the nuc.

02 · WHAT IT IS FOR

Room before the colony has to ask for it

A nuc that gets going runs out of space in weeks: the queen has nowhere to lay and the foragers nowhere to unload. The super gives that volume without forcing you to transfer to a hive, and that stretches the working life of the nuc until the change is really due.

03 · THE MATERIAL

High-density EPS, with what that brings

High-density EPS insulates far better than thin timber and weighs a fraction, which is what you want in nuc equipment. In exchange it asks for different handling: the bearing edge wears away under the hive tool, and there a metal spacer rail in the rebate adds several seasons to the box. Sold separately, within the same system.

04 · BEFORE YOU BUY

It is the super ring alone: no frames, no lid, no nuc underneath. It has a drainage channel: when fitting it, check it sits in position and clear.
