Details of Queen Insemination Backing Tube

Plastic back tube, 30 × 7 mm, with a plug: it holds the queen still inside the holder tube for as long as the insemination takes.

In instrumental insemination, whatever moves is lost. The queen has to stay motionless and in the same position throughout, and that is the job of this one-gram part.

01 · HOW IT IS LOADED

Head towards the plug

The queen goes in head towards the plug, which then holds her without pressing. That leaves the tip of the abdomen accessible and on the axis, which is the position in which the work comes out clean.

Seated properly there are no repositionings half way through, and that is where a queen gets damaged.

02 · WHAT IT WORKS WITH

The holder tube and Schley devices

It works inside the holder tube (ref. 1.52) and with Schley insemination devices. The two parts are bought separately and together they set the queen's position.

And a management reminder: instrumental insemination is done on virgin queens, roughly one week to ten days after emergence. A mated queen is not a candidate.

03 · IT IS A WEAR PART

One gram of plastic that can stop the session

It gets lost or cracked easily, always at the worst moment: keeping spares saves you being caught halfway through with the queens already under anaesthetic.

This is a consumable of the Schley set, not a universal part.
