01 · WHY IT DOES NOT DRIP

The rings work with the viscosity of honey

The head is not a bowl, it is a set of rings with grooves. Honey stays between them by its own viscosity and, as you turn your wrist, it comes off in a continuous thread that breaks when you lift your hand. With a smooth metal spoon the honey runs off the side and ends up on the tablecloth; with this one it does not. It works as well with fluid honeys, acacia or orange blossom, as with dense ones like heather or chestnut, though crystallised honey wants the jar warmed a little first.

02 · WHICH OF THE TWO

Ten centimetres or eighteen, depending on the jar

We carry two wooden spoons and the difference is size and place. This 10 cm one belongs to a small jar: it sits comfortably in a 250 g pot, fits in a gift box and does not stick out by a hand’s width. The 18 cm one, in beech, is the table spoon, for the half-kilo or kilo jar that stays on the breakfast table. And for handing out tastes at a fair there is the disposable spoon, which is single use.

03 · CARE

By hand, and dry before it goes back in the jar

It is solid wood: wash it by hand and dry it at once. No dishwasher and no soaking, which is what raises the grain and opens cracks for honey to lodge in. And there is a reason to dry it well that goes beyond the spoon: honey is hygroscopic, and the water that gets into the jar on the utensil is what can make the surface ferment. Dry spoon, closed jar, honey untouched.
