Electronic moisture meter for pollen: a direct reading in seconds, without weighing or crushing the sample.
The number to aim for is 6-8 %, not 4-10. Worth correcting up front, because both ends of that wider band are known failures: above 10 % the pollen ferments, and below 6 % it goes too dry and loses acceptance in the mouth. The good window is narrow, and that is why you measure.
01 · WHY 6-8 AND NOT SOMETHING ELSE
Pollen leaves the trap at 20-30 % moisture and is among the most perishable products of the hive: at room temperature, with that much water, moulds appear within hours. The dryer exists to bring that figure down, and the operational question is when to stop.
Above 10 % water the risk of fermentation rises clearly. Below 6 % the pollen ends up over-dried and suffers in the mouth, which is what the customer notices. Between 6 and 8 % is the quality reference, and without measuring you will not hit it: you stop too late or too soon.
02 · THE FUNNEL WITH VALVES
The clever part of this device is not the electronics, it is the funnel: it drops the product evenly without weighing it and without crushing it, and that is what makes two consecutive readings agree. You can chain up to eight tests a minute without touching the sample.
The microprocessor computes the result according to the product selected, so there are no conversion tables and no scales involved. The reading comes out to one decimal on an LCD display, with a liquid-crystal thermometer beside it, because the temperature of the sample matters.
03 · WHAT IT IS AND WHAT IT IS NOT
It is a universal grain meter with curves stored per product: the pollen one is among them, and you have to make sure it is selected before reading. The range runs from 1 to 50 % depending on the grain, with an accuracy of ±0.2 % against the standard range.
It serves to decide when to stop the dryer and to check a batch before packing. It does not replace a laboratory analysis if what you need is a document.
04 · BEFORE YOU BUY
A field instrument with a battery and a scale to choose.
| ✓ FITS | Dried pollen, in the 1 to 50 % moisture range, with ±0.2 % accuracy. Portable, with case. |
| ⚠ BATTERY SEPARATE | It runs on a 9 V battery, preferably alkaline, which is not included. |
| ✕ IT IS NOT AN ANALYSIS | It is a process meter: it issues no accredited result and does not replace a laboratory. |
