01 · THE CATCH
Firm and in line, or the fitting works crooked
The arch receives the latch as it turns and tightens. It has to sit at the height and on the axis the fitting itself calls for: off line, the latch still closes but works sideways, and that is where the pin bends or the roof lifts at one corner.
Firm is not tight: the closure should tension, not force.
02 · DRIVING THEM IN
Fit both parts before fixing anything
Offer up the latch and the staple in their working position, mark the centre and drive a single one to test the closure. Go in alternately and straight, and stay clear of the edge: near the end of the board the wood splits and the anchor loses grip exactly where the pull is greatest.
The galvanising is what lets it live outdoors without rusting or leaving a ring on the wood.
03 · BEFORE YOU BUY
They are the anchor, not the closure: the latches go separately. The pack carries no count declared by the supplier.
