01 · THE THREE WARNINGS

One official, two deterrent

The bee warning is the one doing the signposting job: it warns walkers, hunters and the curious, and leaves room to write your holding number or a phone number — many regions require the apiary to be signposted and identified, so check what yours asks for. The other two work on the head of whoever passes: mentioning a GPS tracker and video surveillance cuts down attempted thefts, and it works even with a simple trail camera behind it.

02 · IF YOU REALLY RECORD

The sign deters; the notice is another matter

Two different things worth keeping apart. This sign deters, and for that it stands alone. But if you really have cameras recording, data-protection law also asks for an informative notice identifying the controller and explaining how to exercise your rights — the data protection agency publishes a template. Put both up and you are covered on both counts.

03 · THE MATERIAL

Twin-wall polypropylene, not sheet metal

It is 5 mm twin-wall polypropylene: rigid, it does not craze or ripple, and the print sits protected between the layers, so it stays legible after several winters. To be clear and avoid surprises — it is not metal; in exchange it does not rust, it weighs nothing and it does not dent. The reinforced holes are what let you screw or cable-tie it to a post without it tearing as you tighten.

04 · BEFORE YOU BUY

It measures 35 × 35 cm, big enough to read from a distance without being a hoarding. It is twin-wall plastic, not metal, and the background is warning yellow.
